Well - it's just the contrary: If you are a PHP Programmer you don't need
TypoScript.
Typoscript is done to offer people who don't know anything of PHP (like me)
the possibility to master a PHP based CMS System.
I have been coding HTML, CSS and JavaScript for years without any editor. So
for me it was just another vocabulary to learn, since the syntax is very
similar to javascript and CSS.
Just because you can't see any consistency by now this doesn't proove that
there is none.

And BTW: The Text object in Gifbuilder is of course not able to handle fonts
like a normal text object would, since the font has to be on your
Typo3-Server to create prebuilt graphics of it that are then sent to the
user, while the other Text objects are sent to the user as plain text
together with some formatting tags, that tell the browser which font to use
if this font is installed on the users PC - if not a default one is used.

So your example is a proof for the consistency of Typo3.

I don't think that after a few days someone could say "I am a PHP
Programmer" ... it needs a long time to master any programming or scripting
language.
IMHO it needs a special brain or just a special way of thinking to get the
"magic" behind TS and after that the inconsistencies will just vanish.
