In php.ini I had this entry: memory_limit 64M

You suggested also to --purge and (re)install
php-packages again

I did dpkg --purge php4
When dpkg --purge libapache-mod-php4
I got this message
dpkg: dependency problems prevent removal of libapache-mod-php4:
  phpmyadmin depends on php4-cgi (>= 4.1.0) | libapache-mod-php4 | php4 
(>= 4.1.0) | libapache2-mod-php4; however:
   Package php4-cgi is not installed.
   Package libapache-mod-php4 is to be removed.
   Package php4 is not installed.
   Package libapache2-mod-php4 is not installed.
dpkg: error processing libapache-mod-php4 (--purge):
  dependency problems - not removing
Errors were encountered while processing:
  libapache-mod-php4

When dpkg -l than libapache-mod-php4 still appears
