I'm not a linux or debian guru.
Could someone do a step-to-step guide for upgrading to a mysql version
above 4.0.18?
I inserted "deb http://www.backports.org/debian/ woody mysql-dfsg"
and did a apt-get -u install on mysql-common mysql-client and
mysql-server.
Before and after I did a apt-get update
When installing the mysql-server I godt these errors last in the
process:
Stopping MySQL database server: mysqlddpkg: warning - old pre-removal
script returned error exit status 1
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
Stopping MySQL database server: mysqldinvoke-rc.d: initscript mysql,
action "stop" failed.
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-server_4.0.21-3.backports.org.1_i386.deb
(--unpack):
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1
Stopping MySQL database server: mysqldErrors were encountered while
processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-server_4.0.21-3.backports.org.1_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I can still start mysql.
In phpMyAdmin it still says version 4.0.18
In phpinfo it says:
Client API version 3.23.49

Any ideas?

/Stig
