True. Doesn't make sense to split these as it's not clearly separated in
TYPO3.

Might be an idea, yes. Unfortunately, I've seen some extensions referring to
images in typo3/ext/... which would not be accessible then.
Better set the die() command on top of typo3/index.php.

True. This should be site-installer functionality.

I agree that we should not replace any backend functionality but we can try
to provide some of the Install Tool functionality...

That's not helpful and too complicated anyway.
TYPO3 has it's own package system. We should not try to replace it.
