[Typo3-windows] Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreate()

Hello-

I am new to using Typo3 and have just installed the quickstart.zip on my own
install of Apache 1.3.27 and php 4.3.0

When I goto my install of Typo3 to view the sample site. Instead of the FC
Bigfeets menu on the left I have the following error in a frame.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreate() in
c:\aawebroot\quickstart\tslib\class.tslib_gifbuilder.php on line 198

Can someone tell me how to fix this? I really have no idea where to begin.
