[TYPO3-workspace] Last editor to change stage

My web moderation group have requested that I modify the Workspaces content area by adding a sortable column that shows the last editor/reviewer to change stage on a page/content item.    I've verified that this information is theoretically available from the pages and tt_content tables, or with poorer SQL selectability from sys_history.

Would I override a template or provide a new column in a more API centric fashion?   Can someone point me in the correct direction to implement such an extension?
