[TYPO3-workspace] "No suitable request handler found." while trying to use the workspaces module

I have a site with multiple domains and a custom workspace foo. Whenever
I try to access the workspace inside the workspaces  module for one
specific domain I get a

"No suitable request handler found."

The workspace works fine for other domains/trees.

Any ideas what I should look into? The error seems to happen in

typo3_src/typo3/sysext/extbase/Classes/MVC/RequestHandlerResolver.php
but I don't know what to do with that info.

Using 4.5.10.
