Problem:
Changing the state of a page when using 
options.workspaces.changeStageMode = any results in fatal errors because 
workspaces calls protected methods from version.

Solution:
Patch provided by Andreas Kiessling makes them public.

Additional information:

If nobody objects this will be committed after 48hrs.
