I anticipate your argument that the user needs to scroll then instead
to click. Same work more load.


My answer:

The load would be acceptable as long it is only an index of the
documents without images, without documents TOCs.

The user would gain the choice to scroll or click. There is still the
noscroll-just-click option in the left menu.


Alternative:

Make http://typo3.org/documentation/ a "Top 10/20/50 List" of most
visited documents.
