That's correct. This information is (currently) not used; but it's
publicly exposed via TER web service.

If the extension has no versions, you are able to delete the extension
key. You can also delete existing versions. Be aware that deleteting
versions removes according extension versions from TER!

Well, it's up to the community to join ter/ter_fe projects to remove the
code part in question or to provide a service on basis of existing data.
