You don't have to implement a whole new WHOIS-Interface, but

could be easily extended to somethink like

"Sorry, the extension key you have chosen already exists. Just try another one or get in contact 
with the key owner <a mailto="...">Sebastian Gebhard</a>".

What do you think? Any concerns regarding privacy?
