Hi Sven,

you will find a lot of answers to such questions in the old postings of this
group. I don't know if outlook works as a newsreader, but thunderbird does.
You can read an search in all the old postings.

Bananas serves as an example of php5 usage. 

Starting with the beta branch lib/div will support php5 only. But before
there will be a 'final stable alpha' for those who need to work for php4. 

Anyway, TYPO3 has started to move to PHP5 two years ago. Since then PHP4 is
not a prerequest for the TYPO3. It just still works with PHP4 but PHP5 is
recommended.
