Well ...smartyView is the singular here.

Let's regard the rest of the name as "path prefix" or "directory prefix".
The directory contains multiple views. That's why it's plural.

To use the classname as path information is PEAR style to enable
autoloading. I admit that it's not perfect. Additional freedom to drop
the plural s, like you suggest, could be technically implemented easily.

However I don't feel that we would gain more clearness, if we mix the path

   ...example/views/...
 
with a classname 

   tx_example_view_...

So I am hesitating. Let's hear other opinions.
