Sort of...

It might just be fine for the general solution...

What I mean is this: Having a news extension registering special links to 
straight pop into a single-view of a record, and another extension can just 
use that configuration without knowing about the details.

That's the way I'd go in the case I need it and is not implemented in the 
default ;)

Hehe :-)
Actually I used midnight commander when I started using linux. But then I 
forced myself to not use it, as I could not rely on mc, as it's not default 
on most systems. These days, I am faster using command line anyway, so it 
was a good decision in those old days...
But to be true, I did not think about midnight commander in this case ;-)
