Hello members of ECT,

this is great news for the Extension Coordination Team:

http://association.typo3.org/committees/research-development/members/

I have been invited to the represent ECT in the R&D committee. With this we
have reached our first important goal to make extension coordination an
official part of the TYPO3 community. This is a chance for us, this is an
obligation.

Chances:

* We have the opportunity to present ideas we from the world of extension
development to the R&D commity and ask for a position.

* It will be more easy to ask for APIs that we need for extension development.

* Indirectly our subprojects get an official status

Obligations:

* Defining the goals of this Team

* Defining the internal structures and responsibilities

* Taking the subprojects seriously and lead them to results where possible

* Integrating our work with the other parts of TYPO3

Next steps:

End of this week there will be a meeting of the R&D commitee here in
Berlin. The major theme will be the community of developers itself. Kasper
working name is "TYPO3 genome project". That sounds big and promising. How
to deal with a growing community? How to integrate the input of the people
in a productive way? What structures and working processes are needed?

No, the architecture of 5.0 is not on the agenda itself. In architecture
planning the community shall be involved on a broad base. The question is
first how to organize this broad participation.

If somebody want's to bring in proposals upon the community building
questions as extension developer here is the place to propose it now.

After the meeting in the next week we shall restart the official inner
structuring of ECT and with an official definition of our goals. So please
mentally prepare yourself.

Regards

Elmar
