[TYPO3-ect] TYPO3ext: direct_mail mergers & acquisitions (Calling ALL mailing list management developers)

Hi all,

I would like to propose a new ECT project for coordinating the many
mailing list/newsletter extensions for streamlined mailing list management.

Over at ECT, we are also getting reved up for development on the new
Partner Framework, which we are hoping will become a major part of the
TYPO3 user/group/role/permission management.

In order to have all these working together, we need to start with small
 steps towards this goal. I would like to make a start by taking the
best of all current subscription extensions and bring them back into
direct_mail_subscription. Or maybe even a more official version of
Stanlis' FE User Registration Extension should be created within the
Partner Framework. These are some of the things we need to work through.

I would also like to take the best of any other mailing list management
extensions out there and incorporate them into direct_mail. Or maybe
even a completely new extension. The subscribers of this newsgroup are
obviously the best brains to pick in formulating a plan of attack from
this level, so first of all I would like to spark up some interest on
this topic.

As you can see by the TYPO3 Project Wiki page[1], there are 3 separate
projects that should possibly become one (Partner Framework, New login
box, Users Addresses), so there has already been much thought on this
subject but I would like to get the ball rolling.

All developers of other mailing list managers will also be receiving
this email and I invite you all to contribute to this discussion with
the guys on the ECT as this will be cross posted. The aim would be to
safely mark most of the mailing list related extensions obsolete once
the functionality has been merged.

Please take an interest and share your knowledge as much as possible as
we rely on all you mailing list management developers out there.

I will follow up shortly with a brief progress report.
