The Debian package manager seems pretty far in all those questions,
dependencies, versions, conflictes, virtual packages, repair .... CPAN and PEAR
are although worth to look at.
Hmm, every OS project uses ready VCS and mailinglists, but develops its
individual package management system. Wouldn't it be possible to develop a
general backend solution?
