Welcome to our new TYPO3 extension coordination team,
TYPO3 4.0 is comming closer and we will need new packages for this.

Hi folks,
it is planned that in TYPO3 4.0 there will be no more quickstart and
testsite packages. The import/export extension provides all necessary
features we need for this, therefore we should publish T3D packages of
exactly these existing sites that can be imported very easy.
Since I don't have the time to do that I would be happy if anyone could
prepare T3D files of quickstart and testsite (please use the 3.8.x versions
as the base).
Anybody willing to do that? Thanks in advance.
Regards, michael

I think Michaels idea is great, but someone pointed out that
import/exported content also may require extensions. The import/export
format already handles the dependencies by manually specifying them.
However, I could envision that the format was extended to somehow
provide a one-click solution for installing required extensions as a
part of the import process. I'm not sure if this is a must-have for
Michaels plans - after all they must be usable to people. Over all I
think the basic idea is great because it gives us a) ONE base install
and b) MULTIPLE easily maintained packages which could even be combined.
Less administration for us, more transparency for users.

Now let's get clear on this 3 points first:
1.) Who want's to help to build this packages and learn about the new
import/export technik hereby.
2.) Who takes up the responsibility for this subproject? (Out of those
answering to 1.)
3.) Is Michaels propasal to to it with the import/export functions
realistic for TYPO3 4.0 or should we prepare it with the traditional method?
Regards
Elmar
