[TYPO3-core] What to do with extensions on sprint releases?

Hi.
Moving this topic from slack to this list, to reach a broader audience.
Extensions have to set a requirement for TYPO3 version in order to be
installed via Extension manager (EM).
Now that the release cycle has changed to frequently sprint releases, we
have to think about what that means for extension releases.
The story behind:
If I install a new TYPO3 instance from current master and try to install
the introduction package (introduction) via EM, it fails with the
following error:
"Could not install distribution 'realurl' Your TYPO3 version is higher
than this extension requires. It requires TYPO3 versions 4.5.0 - 6.2.999"
TER is not capable of handling multiple branches of the same extension.
TER does not support dependencies on sprint releases yet.
Is there anything about supporting extension developers with sprint
releases so far?
