[TYPO3-core] Troubles with extension updates in EM

Hi all, 

I am experience the same issue now
- Extension updates hang (greyed out, then nothing happens)
- Uploading extensions manually brings blue message "null uploaded!" 

I am using: 
TYPO3 6.1.7
curl use is on
upload_max_filesize 20M 
post_max_size 20M
php is 5.3.3
Uploads (e.g. fileadmin) work as they should

If anybody has any hints...
I'll try to keep you updated also.
