I store session data according to API as described.

A fix/change/whatever to that behaviour (the API) should never happen, unless
a) there was enough time for developers to react
b) it has been documented according to its impact

The more annoying thing (and once more something you do not refer to in your posts) is, that it is an old ticket that has been opened up _again_ and broke working behaviour _again_.
Notice the "again".

Furthermore, since this is rather basic behaviour of TYPO3s API (meaning it is there for a long time) I wonder how fixes like this make it to the core without being properly tested.

Let's start to improve the overall quality of commits by maybe having a "did you know..." session at a barcamp or something.
It might raise the operational code quality and reduce regressions.
