[TYPO3-core] Upgrade Failure - 4.2 to 4.5.16

Hey Guys,

i've got a problem when i want to upgrade my existing typo3 installation from 4.2 to 4.5.16.

i always get the php fatal error: "Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in shared/typo3_src-4.5.16/typo3/sysext/install/mod/class.tx_install_session.php on line 144". i tried to figure out the problem and i think i found it out. 

The $GLOBALS-Array is overridden with a string and so the scripts crashes.

On a new server wich i have stetted up the installation is successful also a upgrade. But i have to perform the update on a foreign server and i don't know how it is configured. 

So my question is: is there any configuration parameter for php or something that causes the error or may one that can fix the error?
