For the reasons you mentioned, I'd also prefer ExtJS.
However, the difference between your variants is that Tobi's only saves 
the data, whilst yours reloads the frame. I couldn't find out, why 
there's the difference. Think it could be sth. to do with the <a/> 
you're changing.
