Yes - it's intended, since the icon just marks a required field, that is 
empty. So we don't need to waste space left of the field, as long as we 
make sure that the icon disappears on focus.

We won't manage to get a perfect middle vertical aligment anyway, since 
the size of the boxes and the computed size of the surrounding 
containers varies between different browsers and OSs.

So what we can do is to get a good average value to position the icon 
with relative values while actually having absolute positioning.

So if there are more browsers having the icon too far down, I can adjust 
these values a bit, but this would most likely change the perfect look 
of Chrome and Safari.

And no, I am not willing to do a browser hack for it ;-)
