+1 after reading and testing Steffen's version, although it didn't apply 
cleanly. I used the attached version, which is really the same (but 
applies cleanly). The only difference is that I removed the "TODO" note, 
because it was done in the meantime.

Committed to 4.3 in revision 8936, 4.4 in revision 8937 and trunk in 
revision 8938
