I recently talked to a friend who said that he had to work on Windows 2000 with IE 5.5. IE 6
wouldn't install on the machines (as the installer asked for updating the OS first!), so they were
allowed to install Firefox.

IIRC IE 6 came with Windows XP (and was somewhat built in).
