Hello !

Just because this issue:

was discussed again. This is some bugfix which was posted in 2008. Until 
know it didn't make it into the core altough it is quite important.

The improvements from Masi make quite a sense. But I think even without 
them the patch should make it into the core.

Anybody willing to adopt this patch for current trunk? And probably 
change the file-write methods to the gzipped variant - like Masi 
suggested 2 years ago? I didn't get it at this time - what he meant.
