Hi,

Can't give you a +1 because:

Please don't make that new "languageOverlay" function public, besides that..
What holds you back from integrating that into "getRecordOverlay" (e.g. 
as optional "fallback" parameter or with properties of tje 
$TSFE-sys_page) it would be much easier to communicate that 
"getRecordOverlay" is what people should used when they deal with overlays..
