So I guess this is a bug now, not a feature?
The reason is, that the palette elements have been using table cells for the layout, which have been replaced by floated fieldsets in 4.4.
A simple "clear:both" for the element after the --linebreak-- should do the job.

Unfortunately I haven't got the time for a patch because we are preparing for a 10 day vacation and therefor busy to get all the things done.
