+1 by reading, will test tonight.

Are you sure this is the complete list of tags allow shorttags?
"area|base|br|col|hr|img|input|meta|param"

What about class constant holding such references, so we could modify if 
something was added.

Just another case showing that we need unittests for these classes, code 
is very difficult to understand and maintain.
