Sorry for not following up on this since I raised the topic originally, 
but I didn't have time.

Thanks a lot for your work, it's a definite improvement (especially with 
the #14230 follow up). I'm unsure about this being committed to 4.3 as 
it *is* a change in behavior, but I'll leave Olly be the judge of that.
