+1 on reading and testing in 4.2 and trunk.

You could easily test this with commerce:
- Open a category and add some attribute to "Select attributes"
"Product" group.
- Close category
- Open categary again -> The attribute selector looks empty but in fact
the attribute is still selected (you can also click it)
- If you save the unchanged category (without closing), the attribute
label will appear again.
