Michael, it is not "for now". It is forever because it has a clearly defined use case for extensions, which want to improve TYPO3 performance. If you want to add your features, there is no need to kill features added by others. One of TYPO3's strong point is variety of features. Remember what Kasper said about his work on TYPO3 at T3DD08: "TYPO3 was made to demonstrate all possible features". This is what user's appreciate: you can do anything with the system because it is rich in features. If you start removing stuff, what's the point for others to add them? Who will want to contribute for such system?
