I'm in favor of this capability overall since I've seen the specific 
t3quixplorer problem that Steffen R. mentions several times.

Would this functionality work better as a userfunc (ie. RFC #11407) 
instead so that it can be placed inside the form rather than along the 
save button? This would also allow us to add some help text to provide a 
better explanation of what kind of data is cleared.  The comments on the 
thread make it clear that its not immediately obvious :)
