I agree,
in fact you can even add two functions to PiBase to give any extension
proper access to the registry in that case.
The piBase methods then simply expose something like:
function getRegister($key);
function setRegister($key, $value);
Then people will automatically will use the correct API.
About namespaces and object usage, I personally like this method better:
$myRegister = new t3lib_Registry('tx_my_name-space');
Then in the constructor you can trow a proper exception if the name
space value is incorrect.
In the set/get methods you don't have to check the namespace anymore
which decreases the execution speed of the
set and get methods and make the overall code more clean.
Last but not least,
if you create an object rater then using a singleton you can decide
during object initialization
what sort of pre-fetch method you would like to use (eager or lazy).
So on a per case base you can decide if you want to optimize for
memory usage or for execution speed.
- When getting/setting one entry out of many you properly want to
init with FETCH_LAZY
- When getting all entries you properly want to use FETCH_EAGER from
start
And init can look like this:
$myRegister = new t3lib_Registry('tx_my_name-space',
t3lib_Registry::FETCH_LAZY);
or
$myRegister = new t3lib_Registry('tx_my_name-space',
t3lib_Registry::FETCH_EAGER);
(change new for one of the TYPO3 functions to load objects)
