Why is the string rawurlencoded/unescaped? I don't think that we need
that. All new browsers can deal with arbitrary character sets in JS.

PS: Furthermore you'll run in the problem that escape will use %xx for
any characters in the latin1 range and %uxxxx for all other characters.
