Me too, but those other fixes of Ingo's won't hurt.

Any preference to the kind of fix: casting vs on-demand creation? If I 
understand that casting an undefined will create an "empty" object: 0, 
0.0, "", array(). Right? So Michael's fix is good enough for that purpose.
