Yes, we can't drop them because it will impact compatibility and may affect existing sites.

To mark something as deprecated, "pending docs" page on wiki should be modified (http://wiki.typo3.org/Pending_Documentation). Usually this is a responsibility of the core team member, who commits the patch but you can do it too after the patch is committed :)
