first, new feature is never a no-brainer ;-)

trim without charList trims other chars too, see php-doc. With charList 
you have to use all of them because then only whitespace is trimmed by 
default. Defining tab, linebreak etc. from TS will be difficult.
What is your intention, can you give a real life example?
