I think it is ok to hide table in TCA. You may want to do it for some table that contain generated data (like serialized arrays). There is no point to show these tables in List module at all. But to hide them you always have to use TSConfig. Why do it if it can be hidden through TCA? I do not understand reasons for -1. If you do not want to use this feature, no one forces you...
