I analyzed a few JS libraries for use with TYPO3 5.0 and tested extJS
as well. The feature set and visuals are very impressive and the
library provides many cool features out of the box. However, it is
everything else than a lightweight and after running it in my browser
for an hour or so, Firefox took more than 400 MB RAM - looks like
there are some memory leaks ... In my eyes, it's a huge beast, not
very easy to handle. Finally it was not very resposive on my Macbook
Pro - even though it was only short delays, they spoil the impression
of working with a desktop application.
After checking out qooxdoo, Dojo, Prototype, script.aculo.us, Ext JS,
jQuery and mootools, I chose mootools for my further experiments. It
is a very cool, lightweight and clean (beautiful code!) JS library.
It provides the usual basic effects but can be extended with plugins
- and a lot of plugins exist.
So, mootools (www.mootools.net) is my recommendation - but feel free
to choose another framework depending on your requirements for 4.x.
Cheers,
robert
