Just for information: We had lengthy discussions about using magic  
accessors in
5.0 and finally decided avoiding them whenever it is possible. I like  
that
quote from Cédric Bust (http://www.beust.com/): "Use magic only if  
science fails".
And writing a few setter / getter methods didn't turn out to be a  
hassle in practice.
