I do not do it for a simple practical reason: I use Eclipse for 
development and it has nice view for showing file's history. It shows it 
in columns and skipping "*" saves two extra characters. By itself "*" 
does not have any information, so I do not put it into commit message.

I see some people put "*", some do not. I have no problem with "*" at 
all, it simply a tiny bit more convinient personally to me without it :)
