As Martin already pointed out:
* $includeHeaders works only for http and https but check allows also
  gopher, ftp, ftps and telnet.

They are only removed, where there are not supported.

But the most important part of this patch is the first Hunk! It's a kind
of no brainer, and it would be great if at least this could go into 4.1.4...
