I don't know if that makes your worries less but since some time I always have
a more or less actual archive of the complete sourceforge typo3 and typo3xdev
archive on my raid-mirrored server. I also burn those CVS (which end up in my
local CVS) onto a CDROM sometimes.

And I'm sure others have also done this ... when a software is as widespread as
TYPO3 and people know about:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/typo3-cvsroot.tar.bz2
( :) yes ... for all projects)

then I'm sure the complete version tree will never be lost :)
