We were talking about this when discussion TER-releases of system
extensions. The main problem of that is that an extension - once installed
locally - will override the system extension, and this can cause a lot of
trouble.

If we provide some checking feature like ter_update_check does, AND if we
publish indexed_search in TER after each new TYPO3 release, then people can
easily find out if there is a new version to get.
