I know I am being impolite by simply forwarding Jeff's request to you, 
but I have no time to test the bug and the fix until the end of the 
week, when 4.01 might be out already. The patch looks extremely simple, 
but I have no working setup at the moment for testing.

Michael,

I wanted to see if you or another core dev had a little time before
the release of 4.0.1 to check out bug #1454 (http://bugs.typo3.org/
view.php?id=1454).   It's concerend with cookies and the session
expiration time for frontend users.  Stucki has commented on it in
the past, but I know he is away for the rest of the week so I'd like
to have someone look at it before the 4.0.1 release if possible.  The
patch itself is very simple, but the context around it can be a
little confusing so let me know if you have any questions.
