What about compatibility? If someone used it directly? Was it prohibited
to use this file directly?

I would prefer to write in release notes that this file is deprecated
and remove it in 4.5. This way people will have time to update their
extensions. Otherwise they will suddenly find that there is no such file
and have to update their installations.
