I couldn't reproduce it today as the only setup where I had returnmail configured
was broken somehow ... i will fix that tomorrow and report back if it is reproducible.

But in my opinion it would be nor harm to add the select_db statement as it is
obviously missing.

Karsten, you as experts for DBs: is it possible that persistent connections keep the
database selected for some time when you use the same user and password ?
Because none of the two people I asked to confirm the bug were able to reproduce the
debug messages (yes we set debug to ture in t3lib_db).
