Actually the most simple solution would be to implement the tagging part via 
trait, as the code is the same in all classes. Unfortunally, we have to wait 
for 5.4 support in major distributions before we can make use of this.

Splitting the backends intot simple and full counterparts is not needed 
IMHO, because the additional code does not create much overhead. 
Nevertheless I will keep this in mind.

I will talk to Christian about this.
